Tips for First Time Smoke Cleansing

We decided to put out some tips and tricks on how to smoke cleanse your space. Although there are no rights or wrongs if this can give you a little bit of insight then why not? After all, this may be the first time for some of you.

Before you begin, make sure you have de-cluttered and organized your home or space. This whole process is supposed to make you feel uplifted, having that messy room may drain your energy…we don’t want that.

To begin, you’re going to need some matches, and if you have a non-flammable bowl that can come in handy to place your herb stick and also catch them ashes.

To light your herb, make sure you have a flame on it or a red glow on the tips. Don’t blow your flame out. Instead, wave your hand to light it out. Once lit, I immediately start to pray to my God – asking to bless my herbs. If you’re not religious then you can either ask your ancestors or the earth to bless your sage. After, I begin to smoke cleanse myself before I do anything else. I start from my head and ask for positive thoughts, move to my heart and ask for my love and peace to guide me, then I continue to move downward until I get to my feet, where I ask to be guided onto my right path.

While I cleanse myself, I’m only thinking about positivity and love. Once I finish smoke cleansing myself, then I began to cleanse my home. I start with the front doors of my home, you can also just cleanse your room door. Once I’m inside, I start on the right side first then move to the left side of my home/room. As I’m smoke cleansing, I move my herb stick counter-clockwise to get all negativity to leave or use your feather to guide the smoke. I’m also saying a prayer and speaking my intentions. For example, I ask to let go of all frustrations, negativity, bad thoughts, bad spirits/energies, and for them to be dissolved and replaced with only positivity, motivation, happiness, health, and love. I spend more time in the corners of a room because negative energy is known to become trapped in corners or tight spaces. Once you make it back to your starting point – that is when your smudging has been completed. You and your space are now cleansed and have invited only positivity into your life.

You can smoke cleanse however times you want, whether it's every day, once a week, or once a month. While you do this, remember to not overthink. Just let it all come naturally and set those intentions. What is it that you want to get out of this cleanse? What do you want to let go of? What do you want to invite into your space? Enjoy, and know that we're sending you many blessings and positive vibes.
